Worldpackers: My Experience Volunteering Abroad

I first heard of Worldpackers two years go – around the time when I first started travelling solo. Since then, I knew that I would volunteer with Worldpackers one day. Worldpackers is a subscription-based platform where you can find opportunities where you work some hours each day in exchange for food and accommodation. Once you sign up, you can apply for multiple volunteering opportunities, anywhere in the world. I finally signed up in October 2024 and started looking for opportunities that aligned with my interests.

East Bali: An Underrated Gem

Home to gorgeous beaches, lush rice fields, historic temples, and breathtaking views of the mighty Mount Agung, East Bali is a paradise located far away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy areas of Bali. Like most travelers who come to Bali, I only knew of the popular hotspots like Ubud, Kuta, Canggu, and Uluwatu. But when I came across a volunteering opportunity in Karangasem, East Bali, I decided to apply immediately, so I could explore the less-touristy side of Bali.

MEET ROMILA

Hey there! My journey into travel started unexpectedly in 2019 when I planned a family trip to Europe. That experience sparked something inside me—a newfound love for exploring the world. The idea of solo travel had always intrigued me, but life had other plans, from work commitments to the pause brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fast forward to today, I’ve transitioned to remote work, which has opened up the freedom to explore beyond borders. To date, I’ve travelled to 11 countries, including solo trips to Vietnam, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia. Each journey has brought its own challenges, discoveries, and lessons.
